The Bowie Animal Shelter is owned by the City of Bowie and operated under the Bowie Police Department.  The address is 1504 Wise Street in Bowie, Texas.

The present shelter is a stone building with air and heat which houses 14 indoor kennels and 3 quarantine kennels.

The volunteers  raised funds for a slab to put a storage shed on behind the shelter to give us as much space in the shelter as possible for the animals.

Volunteers also raised money in 2005 to have a cat condo constructed which will hold 8 cats.

We have worked hard to try to improve the look of our shelter and have planted trees and flowers outside around the building.

This cat condo was purchased in April of 2009 by the Friends of The Bowie Animal Shelter.  It is quite a step up in making the kitties more comfortable while in the shelter.  It is easier for the volunteers to keep the kitties surroundings clean also!

The Shelter has 10 outdoor runs on a concrete slab.  Our volunteers raised funds to get a roof put over the runs to protect them from the rain and sun.
The Friends of The Bowie Animal Shelter also recently paid for a new concrete slab and covered area to be laid in back of the shelter to help protect equipment and also shelter other animals if need be.
In 2010, the Friends of The Bowie Animal Shelter purchased an automatic, remote control roll-up door that can be raised with just the touch of a button. This helps with getting the dogs out to our bigger area for exercise without breaking your back with the old manual roll-up door.I
New leashes have also been purchased by the Friends so make sure when you adopt an animal you get a nice leash to go with it!

In 2012 the Friends used the proceeds from the calendar photo contest to purchase a beautiful stainless, professional quality, dog bath. It was originally placed in the quarentine room but has since been moved.
