Adoption

The Friends of the Bowie Animal Shelter no longer function within the shelter due to the new volunteer prolicy and procedures. We offer the following info about the shelter only as a courtesy and in hopes that you will go to the shelter and adopt a wonderful pet.

The Bowie Animal Shelter is open Monday-Friday from 8am-4pm by appointment with the Animal Control Officer, Willy Conway, who can be reached at (940) 841-1425.

There are volunteers that keep the shelter open on the 1st and 2nd weekends of the month.  On Saturday you can visit from 8am-3pm and on Sunday from 10am-3pm.  If you would like to talk to someone about the pets available at the shelter, stop by and get a card from the door. It will have contact information on it. You can see the available pets on Pets911.com. I
t will show all pets available and any details about the animals that are known.

The adoption fee is $20.00 and when you adopt you will sign a contract that says you will get a rabies shot and spay or neuter your pet within 30 days. If the animal has already been spayed/neutered the adoption fee may be slightly higher.  Under Section 2.812 of the animal control ordinance "the animal control officer shall keep the statement (contract) on file and, upon failure to receive proof of vaccination and spay or neuter within thirty (30) days, shall file a complaint with the municipal court."

To see the complete ordinance for all pets within the Bowie city limits and the fees charged please contact the Bowie Police Department.

If you adopt a pet from the Bowie Animal Shelter and would like to have your pet spayed/neutered for free by one of the low cost spay/neuter clinics, contact the "Friends" for a voucher. You may contact Jodi Webb at 817-905-9183, or Jennifer White at 940-531-2355. The clinics are located in Denton & Wichita Falls. The vouchers we provide are are good at both clinics.
